Aaron Seton claims maiden National Trans Am race win

History was made at the Adelaide street circuit today with the first-ever National Trans Am Series race, and a familiar name and face took the maiden victory.

Aaron Seton continued his strong weekend run, scoring victory in an interrupted Race 1, with the 21-year-old Ford Mustang driver taking the lead from the pole position and was never headed.

Brett Holdsworth, the older brother of Supercars driver Lee, qualified fourth in his Chevrolet Camaro, and took advantage of Lap 1 incidents to finish second, ahead of the Mustang of Hugh McAlister.

The action came thick and fast on the opening lap when front-row starter George Miedecke's Chevrolet Camaro slowed unexpectedly. Cameron Crick had no where to go and clipped the rear of Miedecke's car, causing damage to both entries.

Miedecke took no further part in the race, while Crick came home 17th, one lap off the lead after a quick trip to pit lane.

In a separate incident, Tim Shaw had a spin at the hair pin but was able to rejoin.

A safety car period to recover the car of Miedecke ended with four laps to go in the race, with Seton slowly edging away from a brief threat from Nathan Herne to go on to win.

Herne was set for second place, only to have his race end with a lap remaining after a mechanical issue.

Amongst the action, Hugh McAlister raced on to take a strong third place, just ahead of his Kubota team-mate Matt MacKelden, who narrowly edged out a fast-finishing Nic Carroll.

Jimmy Vernon looked set for a top five finish, only to over cook it, brush the wall but recover to take 10th place.

The second race will be held tomorrow morning at 10:30am.

Brett Holdsworth leads the pack around the streets of Adelaide.

QUOTES

Aaron Seton
#1 Ford Mustang

“It’s a pretty special moment. It’s my first ever race here in Adelaide, and I’m loving every lap that I do,” said Seton.

“I’ve been fortunate to get the opportunity with the Castrol Harris Racing Mustang. I love racing with this team, having dad here too is special, so it just couldn’t have gone better.

“I’m really loving every lap that I do. Hopefully we can get more racing laps, but I’m really enjoying racing these cars here in Adelaide.”

Brett Holdsworth
#99 Chevrolet Camaro

“I think I passed more cars standing still than in racing conditions, but I don’t care, it’s great result and we are having a ball,” said Brett Holdsworth.

"There was a bit going on in that race, but our plan was to get through the race, come home clean and get on with the rest of the weekend.”
