With less than two months to go before the first round of the 2019 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, Alex Caffi Motorsport confirms its presence in the prestigious series where the team of the former F1 Monegasque driver secured three titles in 2018. Japanese driver Kenko Miura, backed by the Japanese manufacturer, will return behind the wheel of the No.2 Toyota Camry with which he won the Challenger Trophy in Elite 1. The same car will be used in Elite 2 by Finn Jesse Vartiainen, who already starred within the team in the past season. Italy’s Pierluigi Veronesi, who in 2018 obtained podium places among the Rookies, will be back in the No. 27 Ford Mustang. The team will also enter a third car, a Chevrolet, becoming the first team taking to the track all the three spectacular cars, rear-wheel drive with a 5.7-litre Chevrolet engine, of the series born in the USA. And in this context the team has expanded its technical staff with the arrival of Franco Scotuzzi, an engineer formerly in Scuderia Italia.
Alex Caffi said “We start from three, like the titles we won in 2018, and the cars we will follow in the new season. I am delighted to continue alongside Kenko Miura, who in addition to the Challenger Trophy title performed a seasonal crescendo ended with an overall podium in the final race, but also Jesse Vartiainen and Pierluigi Veronesi who have shown great potential in 2018. We have taken another important step with the arrival of an engineer, Mr. Scotuzzi, whose experience will be precious in allowing the team to continue its development. We are still working to complete our driver line-up for the 2019 NWES, with just under two months before the first race in Valencia we are already flat out”.
