Barcelona up first for
WTCR stars
*Two
days of official testing at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya *All-season
drivers set for track action at Spanish Grand Prix venue *Final chance to
prepare for WTCR Race of Morocco opener one week later
The
WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO will be stopping off
in Barcelona ahead of the 2019 season opener in Morocco.
From 28-29 March, all-season WTCR / OSCARO racers will take to the Circuit
de Barcelona-Catalunya for two days of official testing.
It will mark the first occasion in 2019 that the majority of the
#WTCR2019SUPERGRID will be on track at the same time, thereby providing a
crucial form indicator ahead of the opening rounds in Marrakech, where WTCR
Race of Morocco takes place from 5-7 April.
Apart from a handful of drivers being absent due to their participation in
the Intercontinental GT Challenge event in the United States, a full
line-up is expected.
François Ribeiro, Head of Eurosport Events, the WTCR / OSCARO promoter
said: “Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is an obvious choice for the two days
of official testing. It’s an established testing venue, it offers excellent
facilities, a good variation of corners and is ideally located on the route
our teams will take for the sea crossings to Morocco and onward to
Marrakech for the first event of the new season.”
Joan Fontserè, General Manager, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, said: “We
are very happy to be host to another FIA-sanctioned series, which has
chosen us for the second year in a row as their test venue due to the
quality of our facilities. This helps us to strengthen our position as a
benchmark circuit for teams and manufacturers, and to position Barcelona
and Catalonia at a worldwide level.”
The 4.655-kilometre Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was also the venue of
the official WTCR / OSCARO test in 2018 when John Filippi emerged as the
fastest of all in his Team OSCARO by Campos Racing Cupra TCR with a best
time of 1m54.443s.
