NSX GT3 on podium on Blancpain GT Asia debut

The Honda NSX GT3 scored a superb podium finish on its Blancpain GT Series Asia debut at Sepang last weekend (April 14).

Arrows Racing secured third place in the GT3 Am division in the first race of the season; drivers Philip Ma and Jacky Yeung holding the lead for the first half of the race and never putting a wheel out of line.

The pair, who qualified third and fourth for the pair of hour-long races in Malaysia, added fourth spot in Sunday’s encounter and hold third place in the GT3 Am Drivers’ Championship.

The NSX GT3 also made its European race debut at the opening round of the ADAC GT Masters at Oschersleben, Germany.

The Honda Team Schubert Motorsport car, driven by promising youngsters Christopher Dreyspring and Giorgio Maggi was the fastest of the all-junior crews in Saturday qualifying in 16th overall and ran as high as seventh before the mid-race driver changes.

Unfortunately for the team, Maggi’s race ended seconds after he took over the car as he was run into the gravel trap at Turn Four by another car.

The car was fourth-fastest of the all-junior line-ups in Sunday qualifying and started 35th, but Maggi and Dreyspring performed strongly to climb to 24th overall and second-best of the all-junior squads.

Stefano Fini, JAS Motorport NSX GT3 Project Leader, said: “It’s extremely pleasing to see the results achieved by the NSX GT3 at both Sepang and Oschersleben. Arrows Racing have not had their car long, or done much testing, so to lead their class in their first in the Blancpain GT Asia Series and finish on the podium is a great achievement and I must say well done to the team for adapting so well. ADAC GT Masters is the most difficult national GT series anywhere in the world and you can see this by how many professional drivers and top-level teams take part. In Schubert Motorsport we are proud to partner with one of these teams and both of their young drivers performed strongly over the weekend and will only grow in competitiveness as they gain experience with the car.”
