Oman Racing with TF Sport to debut new Aston Martin GT3 at Gulf 12 Hours

Oman Racing with TF Sport confirms that it will compete in the Pro class of the Gulf 12 Hours at Abu Dhabi and will field the new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 at the traditional end of year event.

With strong ties to Aston Martin Lagonda, Oman Racing with TF Sport are proud to become one of the first customer teams to compete with the new GT3 and aim to build on its strong showing at Yas Marina Circuit in 2017, where the team secured a strong second position in the Pro-Am class.  This year the team are stepping up and will be going for the overall victory with Ahmad Al Harthy, Jonny Adam and Darren Turner.

Following a season of Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup racing, Ahmad returns to the team alongside the two factory Aston Martin Racing drivers. Jonny is no stranger to the team as he competes with TF Sport in the FIA World Endurance Championship and has secured two runner-up positions in his two starts to date.

Three-time Le Mans winner Darren meanwhile joins the team having started the World Endurance Championship with Aston Martin Racing, competing this year at Circuit de la Sarthe with TF Sport British GT racers Nicki Thiim and Marco Sørensen. Significantly, Darren already has first-hand experience of racing the new car as he competed in the VLN Endurance Series with Aston Martin Racing recently.

The event gets underway with Thursday practice on 13 December with qualifying on the Saturday for all three drivers. The two-part race takes place Sunday 15 December from 09.00 local time.
Tom Ferrier, TF Sport Director

“It’s quite an honour for us to compete with the new Aston Martin Vantage GT3. You could say it’s a bit of an early Christmas present really, so we’re excited about the race and with such a strong driver line-up, we go there confident of a good showing.”
Ahmad Al Harthy

“I’m really looking forward to what is always an exciting Gulf 12 hours. It’s something we have been working on for some time and to be out there with the latest Aston Martin GT3 will be something very special.

“It will be a privilege to pair up with Darren and Jonny who are both amazing factory drivers. Yas Marina is close to Oman and it will be great having such a great support group, with all of the partners being involved in this last race of the season.”
Jonny Adam

“I can’t wait to race the new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 with TF Sport. The car has been through a detailed development and is a beautiful car to drive and a big step forward to it predecessor. To get the chance to race it now with a good customer team in TF Sport is a great opportunity.

“I raced both with Ahmad and Darren at this event a few years ago and we worked extremely well together and it’s an important race for Ahmad and his partners at Oman Racing. The goal is to challenge for a strong position overall and I believe with the driver line-up and team we can give the new Aston Martin GT3 a strong customer debut in Abu Dhabi.”
Darren Turner

“I raced at the Gulf 12H with Ahmad and Jonny in 2015 and we got a podium, so it’s good to be back racing with them this year. It’s always good to share a car with drivers like them, they have a strong team feeling – a trust between us - and we want the same things from the car.

“I raced the new GT3 at the Nordschleife (VLN race) and from that I know the car is already good and I’m sure it will have taken another step by the time we get to the Gulf 12H.

“Yas Marina is a great facility and the racing is fantastic. The last third of the lap is tricky with lots of off camber slower corners that can generate mistakes and lose lap time. It’s a really nice way to finish the year and it’s another race for us to learn and further develop the new car.”
