SOUTH RACING CELEBRATES ITS FIFTH ANNIVERSARY BY

RUNNING THREE T1 CARS IN BAJA ARAGÓN TERUEL

·        Alvarez, Gutierrez and Pórem to drive South Racing cars in Spain

: South Racing will celebrate its fifth anniversary as a car preparations company by running two Volkswagen Amaroks and a Ford Ranger at this weekend’s Baja Aragón Teruel, round seven of the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies.

The company, which is based out of Germany and has workshops in Portugal, will run a pair of four-wheel drive Volkswagen Amaroks for the Spanish driver Fernando Alvarez and his Argentinean navigator Juan Pablo Monasterolo and a second similar vehicle for Bolivian Rodrigo Gutierrez and co-driver Juan Rubi. Alvarez retains private support from Conarpesa.

Portugal’s Ricardo Pórem won the 2017 Portuguese National Championship of Cross-Country Rallies (CNTT) and the 2017 Cross-Country Rally Iberian Trophy in a South Racing Ford Ranger and the talented driver returns to the team for the first time this season to drive a Ranger alongside new co-driver Nuño Rodrigues de Silva.

South Racing’s managing director Scott Abraham said: “It’s always nice to go back to Spain. The event has special memories for the team because it is our fifth year returning as South Racing. It was the first FIA event that we took part in as a team in 2013.

“Fernando has shown a strong pace in recent events and, other than the small mishap in Italy that put him down the leader board, a strong finish would have been possible. Rodrigo is always quick and will be looking, not only to score points for the FIA World Cup but also to score for the Spanish Championship.

“Ricardo is returning to the team for the first of the two races in his schedule. He will also take part in Baja Portalegre at the end of October. He always has a good speed and is one of the drivers out there with a lot of potential. We are looking forward to a good race.”

The competitive action in the FIA event gets underway with a timed 13.46km super special stage, near Teruel, on Friday evening.

The bulk of the 521.42km of action takes place on revised stages on Saturday (July 21) and Sunday (July 22). There are two selective sections of 227.51km and 154.85km on Saturday and one of 125.60km on Sunday before the podium ceremony in Teruel later in the afternoon.
