Rally Italia Sardegna is ready to start

The event can be followed through the official live streaming of WRC+, on Italian TV channel RAI Sport and on social channels. The Italian round of the World Rally Championship is waiting for the engines to start tomorrow (Oct.8) with the shakedown starting at 12:01hrs on a 3.79 km gravel course near Olmedo.
Four days in Sardinia for the 6th round of the FIA World Rally Championship, 16 special stages with start and finish line in Alghero, North-West city of the Island where the event is based. The pre-race press conference will be held tomorrow at 16:00hrs.
The drivers' championship standings sees Elfyn Evans in the lead after five rounds with 97 points. Ogier is second with 79, Tanak and Rovanpera third with 70, Neuville fifth with 65. In this crucial moment of the season the Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT Welsh driver seems the favorite on his title contenders but a misstep could keep open the title fight. Sardinia will be crucial for Sébastien Ogier who wants to fight back after he retired in Marmaris, even if the 6 time world rally champion will not have a good starting position in the first leg on Friday. He is second on the special stages behind the championship leader.
Different position for Thierry Neuville of Hyundai Shell Mobis WRT that will start in fifth position and even better his teammate Dani Sordo who won in Alghero last year, this time starting in eighth position. Ott Tanak will be third on the road. Toyota will also line up the Finnish youngster Kalle Rovanpera, who is third in the standings on equal points with reigning world champion Tanak.
World championship fight is very open in the manufacturers' standings, with Toyota in the lead (since the first round in Sweden) with 174 points ahead of Hyundai, which follows with 165. Every little detail will be decisive to win this world title, so important for team principals Tommi Makinen and Andrea Adamo. It seems clear that it will be a very tight fight until the very last special stage of the season between the Japanese and Korean makes. For the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team Sardinia already saw the Finns Esapekka Lappi and Teemu Suninen, 2nd in 2019, as protagonists. Also Petter Solberg will be present at 2020 RIS on the Citroen C3 WRC of the Sainteloc Junior Team.
Among the WRC3 16 entries, Alberto Battistolli is entered by ACI Team Italia and will drive a Skoda Fabia R5, like Luciano Cobbe, while Umberto Scandola will be on a Hyundai NG i20 and "Pedro" on a Ford Fiesta R5 MkII. There are 8 crews awaited in the WRC Junior; in addition to Latvian leader Martins Sesks (Ford Fiesta) there are two bearers of ACI Team Italia: Marco Pollara and Fabio Andolfi on M-Sport Ford Fiesta Rally4.
