Confident of gains as

GT Open heads to Spa
Having secured the first Pro-Am class podium of the season and pole position last time out at Circuit Paul Ricard, Balfe Motorsport are now heading to another well-known European circuit, Spa-Francorchamps, for the rounds three and four of the International GT Open championship.

Shaun Balfe is again joined by Adam Carroll in the distinctive #22 Audi GT3 LMS. The pairing last week took the opportunity to test at in fine conditions at Silverstone in readiness for the demands of the Belgian venue.
Their third position finish in the opening race of the season yielded six points, and while a positive start to the campaign, the team now that they need to unlock further potential from the package this weekend at Spa. For Shaun, a repeat of the runner-up position secured in 2017 would be very welcome.
The action gets underway on Friday with three practice sessions, ahead of Saturday qualifying and the first race of the weekend. As ever, there is a good chance of rain showers, especially on Sunday afternoon when the fourth round of the championship takes place. Click here for the full timetable.
Q) The season started well with the third position at Paul Ricard and the pole position, Spa-Francorchamps obviously brings differing demands, such as in the middle sector where cornering speed is key to a fast lap?
"We had a positive start to the season with the podium and the pole, which was Audi’s first in the championship. Spa should hopefully suit the Audi better than Ricard due to its fast and flowing nature."
Q) The team tested last week at Silverstone in readiness for Spa, can you tell us a little about the run programme?
"It was good to test and get more miles in the bank, testing is very important to understand the car. As it is still new to the team we continue to learn all the time, trying some different setups and understanding how the car reacts to basic changes. Every mile behind the wheel is important for Shaun and I, we are both still learning all the time."
Q) The GT Open field is close, what is the focus with the Audi in extracting pace for the next step?
"GT Open is very competitive, all the cars have their strengths and weaknesses, the Audi is very good in the corners and on the brakes, we lack bottom end torque against the turbo cars coming off tighter mid-to-slow corners, so hopefully Spa will allow us to use the car's strengths."
Q) Finally, what areas are you focusing on with Shaun in your role of driver coach and what are the expectations for the weekend ahead.
"Spa is one of the best tracks in the world and We are both really looking forward to driving the Audi here. Shaun is improving each time he drives the Audi and is doing a great job, it is important that we maximise the seat time available and the data available. We will do the best we can and hopefully, that will put us in the mix."
